Understand the rate limit rules for CleverTap APIs

API Rate Limit

A rate limit is the number of API calls an application or user can make within a given period. Setting rate limits enables you to manage the network traffic for your APIs and specific operations within your APIs.

In CleverTap, API rate limits are broadly categorized as follows:

Global Request Limit

This rate limit is applicable globally, irrespective of user accounts. The rate limit is set at 60 requests per API (For example, if there are ten accounts and the total requests from them for an endpoint exceeds the global request limit, i.e., 60, then there will be throttling in API traffic). If the limit exceeds, the 503 error code will return with a Please come back later error message.

Account-Level Request Limit

This rate limit applies to a specific user account. The rate limit is set at three concurrent requests per user account. If the limit exceeds, the 429 error code will return with a Too many concurrent requests error message.
